We believe, at the Ironton Catholic Schools, St Joseph High School and St Lawrence Elementary School, that the Holy Spirit plays a significant role in our continued purpose to help our students “Learn, Serve, Lead, & Succeed.”
LEARN: St. Lawrence students participate in Local, County and District Academic Fairs. Students also participate in Spelling Bees and Geography Bees. Selected St Lawrence 6th graders are frequent winners of local EDDY Awards. Many students of the Ironton Catholic schools are recognized by various community and civic organizations each year. Our St Joseph Students continue to be successful in many areas of academics. Our mock trial and quiz bowl teams continue to compete with area schools. Many high school students help younger students through volunteering with Project More at the elementary school.
SERVE: Service is of utmost importance to the Ironton Catholic Schools and is an integral part of our community from pre-school to graduation. Many contributions of time, talent and donations are given to enhance the needs of our community along with other world organizations such as participating in the annual Ironton Clean-Up day. Recently food items were collected for local pantries and the Ironton City Mission. Personal hygiene items were collected to provide for the area homeless. Service hours are graciously given to many individuals along with community efforts. Students lead our Red Cross Blood Drives twice per year. St. Joseph students serve lunches at the Community Kitchen. The sophomore class visited the local nursing home for a Christmas activity with the residents. Seniors continue to serve the marginalized through weekly service.
LEAD: St. Lawrence and St. Joseph students will volunteer all ministries for the Mass on Tuesday, January 28th at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church. St. Joseph students will help prepare treat bags for St. Lawrence students. St. Joseph class officers organize and lead an annual “Buddy Lunch” with activities to bring students together. St. Joseph members of the Lawrence County Student Alliance Group meet throughout the school year to discuss topics which include; mental health issues, social media, bullying, and being positive examples in their schools for success of all students.
SUCCEED: Teachers and students continue to excel beyond regular classwork. Students regularly compete in and win top awards at Marshall University’s SCORES academic festival. Our Mock Trial Team recently advanced to regional competition. Our math department has an established partnership with Marshall University to build a “differential analyzer”, the first partnership of its kind in the country. Science fair participants regularly earn top scores in local and regional competition.
We feel extremely blessed with the outpouring of support both given and received by our Ironton Catholic Schools, St Joseph High School & St Lawrence Elementary.
